Welcome to 2010 – Mohabat: A New Year Resolution for Nejat Church

January 4, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Today’s sermon was delivered by Pastor Massoud Sadeghi after a photo journal of Nejat Church was presented by Sheeva.  The photo journal showed the church activities throughout 2009. It showed the wonderful works of the Holy Spirit, through the baptism of new converts from Islam to Christianity, the church camp, the Sizdeh Bedar event, the Christmas party where some 500 Iranians took part; the New year party and short films of the Iranian youth who expressed their love for the Lord.

Pastor Massoud took the podium and welcomed members and guests to Nejat Church.  This is a summary of his sermon translated from Farsi to English:

Welcome to Nejat Church and welcome to 2010.  Every year, this is the time when people make new year resolutions.  They work hard to keep their resolutions through out the year.  I hope you will want to show God’s face to people in 2010.  You know, God wants people to see Him.  Throughout history, people have sought religions and philosophy to find God, but they have only brought hunger, war and disasters to mankind.  God wants to show his true self to us.   He has done that through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Read Romans 8:14 – This year our resolution should be to show God’s face and His love for people. I want to see Jesus in you this year.  This is the year of victory for those who believe in Christ, who have found a new creation. This new creation is a fundamental change, as all the bad habits and bad actions are replaced with God’s presence, God’s Light and Love, in you.

Read Galatians 4:19 and John 3:16 – You must show God’s love to others this year.  This is the year of happiness, joy, healing and salvation for people who are seeking God and His Love.  You only need to show the true face of God to other people, so they can see the true love.  People are thirsty for love.  The world does not need any more religions and laws.  What the world needs is love. So, God sent His perfect love, His only Son to us. He sent peace, joy and love through His Son, Jesus Christ.

So in this new year, we must become the agents of God’s love, His peace and Joy.  A clear sign of the new creation is love, what we call Mohabat in Persian.  Love, Mohabat is only seen in action.  What the Lord did for us was a perfect example of His Love for us, the sinner of this world.  The kind of love that world is seeking is the love that does not expect anything in return.  The love that Jesus offered is the perfect love for anyone, without bias or prejudice, for people of any race, of any nation to receive it.   Likewise, we must show love to everyone, not just to our friends and family, but to all, even to our enemies, to those who have done us wrong.   Love should not be out of petty or out of feeling sorry for someone; it should be based on Mohabat – love.

Let me use the analogy of a perfume bottle.  When you spray the perfume, you are only giving a small sample. But, when you break the entire bottle, then you truly pour out the perfume.  Love works the same way.  We must break the bottle of our hearts to pour all of our love for others.  The key step in giving love is forgiveness.  God forgave our sins by giving His only begotten Son … Likewise, when Jesus went on the cross, He forgave them, saying: “God forgive them for they do not know what they are doing.”

Similarly, when Steephan (Stephen) who was stoned to death, said: God forgive them.  Today, people are tired of religous tricks and religious talk.  They hunger for true love.  When Poulos and Silas (Paul & Silas) were captured and beaten, deep in the darkness of night in jail, they raised their voice in worship and praise of God (they did not curse their captors because they had forgiven their captors).  Today, I say to you to do the same. Forgive those who have done you wrong.  Break the jar of your heart and pour all the love to other people.  People must see the true face of God in us, this is possible when we act in God’s love towards others. Let’s show the true face of God in our love for others.  Let this be our new year resolution for 2010. Amen

In Him – Sermon summary – Sunday, Sept 27, 2009

September 28, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Today’s sermon was delivered by pastor Massoud Sadeghi.   He looked at answering three questions:

1) Who are we?

2) What do we possess?

3) What are we capable of doing?

Pastor Massoud Sadeghi then continued to discuss the answers.  Here is a summary of his sermon:

Interestingly enough, these three questions are common amongst all people of the world.  People’s lives center around the answer to these three questions.

Let’s answer these three questions for the believers in Christ.  Let’s look at IICor 5:17.  The Bible says that anyone born again in Christ has unlimited life, unlimited power and unlimited blessings and wealth in Jesus Christ.  In Jesus we are capable of doing anything.  If one’s life is in Jesus, that person has many privileges.  We are God’s children and as His children we have previliges that others don’t.

In Col. 1:13, we read that you are free of all chains and bondage in this world.  You are free to sow and reap in freedom and you will receive His blessings abundantly.   What ever you touch, what ever you put your mind to, through Jesus Christ, you will sow many rewards and benefits, so vast that you can not collect it all.  When a believer realizes that we’re free from Satan’s harm and realize that Jesus paid for our sins, we know that we are free of sins and free from Satan’s grip.  Read Gal. 5:1.  Yes, you are free and should not let others put the yoke of sin and bondage on you.  We should proclaim: I have everything in Jesus; I can do anything in Him.  Freedom is the number 1 thing that people around the world need.

Since Jesus is the captain that pilots your life, there is nothing to be afraid of or to worry about!  God’s grace is enough for us to meet any challenge or difficulty.  God’s Grace is all that we need to receive His blessings, peace and prosperity.  God created us by giving us this eternal life.  He breathed His spirit in us when he created humans.   God intended that we have eternal life.   (Read Col. 1:15, Genesis 2:7).

God has created everyone of us by His own hand. God crafted and shaped each and everyone of us by His own hands.  We are His creations formed in His image.  Knowing this fact, our views of each other must change as we should view one another as the handicraft of God.  Read John 15:5 – Did you know that you are under the protection of Jesus’ blood?  Did you know that you will bring vast harvest.  (Look at Hebrews 7:25 then Romans 8:33 and Phil 3:19).  Jesus is there and prepared to always make intercession for us.  Jesus always lives to see that our rights and salvation are protected.  God even fights for us, for His children.  He fights for our behalf.  In Him, we can reach the wonderful promises that He has given us.  He will satisfy all of your needs and gives you blessings beyond our imagination and beyond any limits.  Amen.

Eternal Life – Sermon Summary, Aug 2nd & 9th, 2009

August 10, 2009 · Leave a Comment

This text is a summary of two sermons delivered by Pastor Massoud Sadeghi after the worship on Sunday, Aug 2nd and 9th.  The theme of today’s sermon was Eternal Life.  Pastor Sadeghi began with the following message (and I paraphrase):

” Welcome to Nejat Church.  I hope you have come, ready for change because Jesus changes us.  He has given us eternal life, hope and power over the evil, because our Lord is alive.  Today the word that I’ve to deliver comes from the Holy Spirit.  It’s a life changing word.  The world needs the presence and existence of God.  God created the church on this earth as a token of His presence and existence.  Some have understood this principle… Let’s learn the power of this fact and use it in our lives.  There is power in being born again.  You can touch and feel and itnernalize this new life.  One verse captures it all; John 10:10 – Jesus said: The thief comes to steal and destory. But I’ve come so that you may have eternal life and have it abundantly.

Eternal life is more than just being alive and to breath. The life that Jesus talked about was about a God-like life, an everlasting life.  In John 1:4, Bible says that life came from God and Jesus brough it with him.  This is the eternal life. It gave light.  Where there is light, darkness flees.  When you believe in Jesus, any darkness in your life is wiped away with the Light of God.  Jesus is the source of eternal life.  Anyone who has come to know Jesus is a new creation in light (see 2Cor 5:17).

The old human nature is now replaced by a new creation.  We’re now God’s friends, God’s children.  He shares His glory and riches with you.

Some try to label Christianity as a religion, but Christianity is not a religion.  It’s a miracle.  It’s not a new set of laws or rituals.  It’s a new creation.  Only Jesus and only through Jesus we find this eternal life.  No law, no prophet, and no one can change the nature and creation of humans, but Jesus who transforms us from within, can do that. He can take people from darkness to light.  Only Jesus can do this.  In this new creation, we’re now among God’s family and have the previlege to sit next to God.  (Psalm 8:4-5).

Why did God pay so much attention to the human race?  We’re created in His image.  He put the crown of glory on humans.  If believers only truly knew the benefits and meaning of eternal life they could change the world at once.  Take a look at this world, the person who does not believe in Jesus brings destruction to himself and to those around him.

I want to open a secret for you.  Read John 3:16.  God loved the world so much that he sacrificed His only Son, so our sins are forgiven and we -instead of going to hell- will go to heaven.  But that’s not all.  This is the good news: When God gave His Son, he gave Jesus to us, namely the eternal life itself;  He gave his own character and nature, true life to us who believe in Jesus.

You should know that now you are like God, you speak like God, you behave and act righteously like God, … In John 20:30-31, we learn that as believers not only our sins are forgiven, but also that we have eternal life.  In 1John 5:11-12, we learn that : Whoever has the Son, has eternal life.  The creativity and power of God is available to us believers.

But those who do not know Jesus, live in darkness and misery.  I’ve a message for the youth:  The eternal life in you can enable you to change the world.  (Read 1John 5:13-15).  Since you know, live, speak and act like the Creator, He will hear you and will grant you whatever you ask of Him in Jesus’ precious name.

To parents, I say:  teach your children to worship God.  I want to be remembered as the pastor who taught and encouraged believers to worship God.  Today, I welcome the Jewish guests who have heard about our church and have joined us.  We are so much indebted to the Jewish people for giving us Jesus.  Paul said I’m not ashamed of Jesus’ word.  Likewise, I’m also not ashamed of His word.

I respect all religions, but want to tell you about Christianity.  All religions attempt to ameliorate our appearance, to make our outer shell look good.  But Chrisianity wants to change us from the inside.  The old nature is replaced with a new nature, a new life.  There are many forms of life.  There is life in plants, animals, and humans.  But one life form does not change into another. For example, animal life does not tranform itself into plant life.  But there is one form of life that changes the nature of the living humans and allows the Life of God to enter into humans.   This is the God-like life, the eternal life.  To know something, it’s necessary to study the origin of such a thing.  It’s good to know the origin of this eternal life that believers enjoy.

In John 1:1, the Bible tells us that in the begining the Word was with God, the Word was God and that was Jesus.  Jesus was the Life of God.  Jesus came to this world to bring God-like form of life, namely the eternal life to the human race.  Anyone who is united with Jesus, is filled of the Holy Spirit, and has a new creation, and with this new creation, has the personality, the nature and  characteristics of God.

We have God’s life in ourselves.  We are new creations with a new form of life, the God-like, eternal life form.  Jesus said that he is the true vine and we are the branches.  You know that branches grow new leaves and fruit.  God’s life and all of God’s characteristics are in you and live in you.  If believers focus on the vine and live from the sap of this vine, namely if they focus on Jesus and let the sap of this vine to flow through them, they can have everything they want from God.  (See John 10:10).  Jesus came so we may have eternal life in full and have it abundantly.  Underscore the words full and abundantly.  Something that is full, is complete and does not lack anything; there are no deficiencies.

As God blessed you when you were a sinner, imagine how abundantly God will give you of his blessings when you become one of His children as a believer.  In 2Cor 5:4, Paul says that we will be swallowed up by life.  Underscore the words: swallowed up by life.  Imagine that… we would be swallowed up in eternal life and as we read in Mark 9:23 and Matthew 19:26, everything that we want is possible.  For the believer who is swallowed up by God’s eternal life, everything is possible, because Jesus makes it possible.

I want to open a metophorical sea shell and give you a pearl today.  I’ve received freely so I give freely.  Are you ready to receive this pearl of God’s Word?  Look at Philipians 2:13.  It is God who through His loving kindness gave us eternal life and power.  But this power is in us through Jesus Christ who overcame the sins of this world and made the supernatural miracles possible.  When Jesus walked on this earth, the same powers that were in Him and were demonstrated over nature, are also in you through His name.  (Read John 14: 12-14).  Jesus transforms anything that is impossible, into possible.  We can do the impossible things because Jesus is making is possible in us.

God uses the believers to carry out His plans.  The power of Jesus in the believer is bigger and mightier than all the evil in this world.  The power of Jesus in a believer is bigger and more powerful than all chemical weapons and any nuclear bomb that a nation might want to build.

I’ve been called by the Holy Spirit to make you aware of the power of God in you.  So, believers stand up and grasp what a wonderful life you have and the power that you have in Jesus’ precious name. (Read John 5:24).  Do not live life by focus on your past sins. Instead focus on God’s life, the enternal life in you today.   Today, God’s love and life flows in us and through us.  Today, we are sisters, brothers and one family in God’s love. We love one another, and even love our enemies.  Jesus is the origin of God’s eternal life and love the essence and nature of this eternal life.  May God bless you.  Amen.

Sermon Summary, June 21st – Happy Father’s Day

June 22, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Today’s sermon was delivered by Pastor Massoud Sadeghi after the wonderful and melodic songs of worship, mixed with prayers for healing and peace in Iran.  The church offered special prayers in light of the recent unrest and uprising in Iran for peace and reconciliation with God.  Here is brief summary of the sermon, which I paraphrase:

Happy Father’s Day to all fathers and grand fathers around the world.  In particular I congratulate those fathers who fulfill their fatherly role and duty and raise their children with the word of God and according to his teachings.

The world needs a father.  I pray for peace and for those fathers whose children are in Iran and they have not yet returned.  I pray for God’s peace to be with them.  I pray that Jesus touches the hearts of the youth in Iran and bring peace.  Only Jesus can bring freedom, peace and reconciliation.

No one else can bring freedom and peace to Iran, but Jesus.  Just as the Israelites learned that only by calling on teh name of Jehovah, they could be rescued, I pray that the Iranian people learn that by calling on the precious name of Jesus, they too can be saved and they can find peace.

Father’s Day is reminicient of sweet and wonderul childhood memories.  But for some who did not have a good childhood or if their father was not caring and loving so they don’t have fond memories, I want to let you know that you can set those bad memories aside. I want to talk about a God who want to be a good father to all of us.   Even if parents abandon their children, God says that he does not abandon or forget us.  He creates sweetness and joy in live (read Luke 12:32).

Jesus has come to give life in its fullest, give peace in its best and give love endlessly.   (Read Mat 7:11).  Our heavenly Father wants to give us much more, infinitely more blessings.  The Holy Bible says that you do not have, because you have not asked.  Today I ask and pray to God to give peace, freedom and joy to Iran.  Believers should know that everything good comes from the Lord.  (Read James 1:17).  If there is any pain, any shortcomings, any fear, poverty and illness, it’s not from God. It’s from Satan, because God is good, because God is the light and bread of life. (Read Rom 8:32)

I pray that the people of Iran to be touched by Jesus, regardless whether they wear a black uniform or a green uniform.  Because someday, everyone regardless of the color of their uniform will stand before Jesus and will answer to Him.  That’s when every knee shall bow and every tongue will confess.  Jesus will decide who will go to heaven and who will go to hell.  Whether in Iran’s turbulent situation, person is shooting and another person is getting hurt, I pray that the veil of darkness be lifted from Iran and people on all sides come to know Jesus Christ as their savior.

Those who get close to God are those who hear God louder and better.  The only way to salvation, to freedom and peace is through Jesus Christ.  The closer we get to Jesus, the more we think and act like Him.  My people of Iran, I pray that you come to know the heavenly Father that you come to know the word of God so the blood sheds, wars and in-fightings end.

Now, I have an advice for all fathers.  As fathers, our behavior and conduct will impact the future of our children.  A Christian father must give his children three things: 1) Love, 2)Teach the Word of God, and 3)Be an example in conduct.

In closing, let us pray to our heavenly Father and praise him for his mercy and grace.  We pray that Iran will be saved and rescued from the hands of evil.  In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Editor’s commentary: On this Father’s Day we offer our deepest sympathy and continued prayers for Neda’s family and all those who have lost their loved ones in the recent conflict in Iran.
